Apothecary Bottles

I have long since began my collection of antique apothecary bottles and I am finally somewhat sufficed with my collection...that is of course until I begin collecting them for my wedding centerpieces.

I must of course tell you the story behind these particular bottles. I bought most of them at an antique shop on Queen right before Roncey. Before I bought them the owner of the store told me how he and his friend went to an abandoned train station and began to dig. They soon began to discover hundreds of apothecary bottles dating back to 1848. Shortly after digging they both broke out from head to to in rashes and had to go to the emergency room straight away. I assume it was some of the medicines fermenting? Who knows... all I know is that I am so grateful they were found and that I get to enjoy them.

Some Serious Inspiration

I just started following a blog called Ghostly Dreams and Flower Things from Long Beach and I must say they are probably my new favourite. It is so amazing to be able to use blogs to find florists that will inspire me in my career. Here are some images from their blog of tablescapes that represent desert resort living. How stunning are they!

Lovelies of the Week

Probably one of my all time favourite flowers; Astrantia. The colour is divine and just so happens to match my bedroom colour perfectly.

I call these snowflake mums. I have never seen them before this week and I just love their texture!

This pale yellow blushed Leucadendron is truly unique. I have never seen this colour before and each stem branched out into numerous pods. Simply stunning!

I also have some big news... I am officially a single jobbed woman for the first time in over a year. It is quite sad letting go of a shop that I learned so so much at and that I treasured deeply. Reed Russell from East of Eliza taught me almost everything I know about design and I am truly blessed to have had the experience that I did.

Big Changes Ahead!

I am in the midst of a big change in my career but things are looking up I just have to do whats best for me for a change. So many thoughts and so much contemplating I just have to stay true to my heart. With all of this craziness I just need to take a couple minutes and listen to this song and dance.
I also finally have some pictures of bouquets from Valentines day. Hope you like them!

D.I.Y Brides

I found a gorgeous wedding this week on Sloan Photographers. This bride set out to make everything she possibly could herself which is exactly what my intentions are when I get married. I plan on spending months and months hand making everything from invitations to favors. I think weddings are supposed to represent you as a couple and/or person and what better way to do it than by hand making everything? Kudos to this bride for her amazing taste and dedication.
Teapots everywhere, how fabulous! Not to mention that everyone drank from mason jars.

I could just picture the bride hand picking each one of these antique china dishes over the course of years in order to use them as her favors.

Tea pot arrangements and arrangements raised on books have definitely been in my wedding inspiration book for quite some time.

This is not your average collage, this is something truly unique. With dozens of frames of wedding certificates and wedding pictures of relatives hanging from barn board, this piece is phenomenal.

Getting Rosie From All of The Posies

Ever since I first started designing I used to always love making miniature arrangements. With popular demand I now make dozens a day! A lot of the time men will come in to get a big bouquet for mom and a sweet posie for their little girl ( how sweet I know.)Sometimes the posies are on their own so that you can place them in your own vessel and other times I do them up in Hyacinth vases (which look like little curvy mason jars.) Enjoy!

A day of Sweethearts

I wouldn't spend Valentines Day any other way than in a flower shop. It is amazing to be a part of so much love. At one point during the day we had a lineup of six men staring at the card wall trying to find the perfect card for their sweethearts. I must have made 200 bouquets this weekend and each one of them for a guy who is either in love or falling for a special someone. Some men would take forever to pick out the exact bouquet that represented their sweeheart's personality perfectly. The real winners are the men who were sending bouquets to their grandmothers in retirement homes who no longer had a sweetheart. Each man I served reminded me of my sweetie trying to pick out a bouquet for me. Although we planned to celebrate Valentines Day on the 15th I still came home to the surprise of a bouquet from my favorite florist Coriander Girl. Having so much love around me made me feel all cozy inside.

What Palette Are You?

I must share what I have been working on all weekend for East of Eliza's blog. I ended up being the last result when all web companies had failed us. With no graphic design skills and no programs besides paint to try to pull offsomething slightly tasteful this is what I came up with. These banners are meant as a tool to help men pick out what kind of colour palette their significant other would like for Valentines Day. East of Eliza has a radio add playing on 97.3 fm which is why I have been working until all hours of the night trying to complete this mind boggling paint task before today! Anyways, please ignore all of the measurement and quality discrepancies I tried my best with what I had!

Second Anniversary

This weekend will by my second year anniversary with my sweetheart. He has taught me so much about love, myself and how to live. We are truly two peas in a pod and I am so excited to hopefully spend the rest of my life with him. Yesterday as an anniversary gift we both went out to get matching tattoos. Now I know you might think that getting tattoos about a significant other is a terrible idea but it depends on how you look at it. If by any chance something did happen to us I would never in a million years want to forget about these past two amazing years of my life and how much I have grown as a person. I have had this little mustache drawn out for about a year now for me but we then had to figure something out that would represent me on him. The only thing we could both think about was flowers. So I plopped myself down and drew him a Tudor Rose with the words "True Love" around it. I liked the Rose so much that I decided to get it as well but with the banner "Little Florist" around it so that it wouldn't be just a flower on him it would represent me as an artist and a florist. Et Voila! Here is to another year together!
