Yummy Mummies!

Holy cow it is finally over. These past three days were the busiest in Sweetpea's history. I'm talking busier than Valentine's Day ( by like 10 times .) It was an absolute gong show but it was fabulous! Holidays aren't holidays without working in a flower shop anymore. They are so much fun and you get to make so many lovely things (non-stop). The flower of the weekend was definitely Peonies. I'm talking  going through 300 Peonies in 3 days... Ya I know right? I jokingly say to my single female friends that if they want to meet some big sweeties to come take a gander in a flower shop on Mother's Day. These are men that are buying flowers for their mummies and grandmas (top quality men if you ask me.) Nonetheless, this weekend is going down in history for the busiest flower shop I have ever worked during my 5 year career as a florist. 

Hello easter, you came and went with a bang!

Holy cow this weekend has been insanely busy and it is wonderful! I have been making bouquets all weekend non stop. That is literally a full 24 hours of designing in three days! There wasn't much time for photos but I did manage to sneak in a couple of these nested posies which flew out the door faster than I could make them.

Oh and did I mention that Sweetpea's has Sweetpeas right now? I know right? Aren't they gorgeous!

Steering The Ship

We have had a crazy busy week at the shop and I have been all alone. The other floral designer was on holiday and the owner was doing landscaping quotes so it was just little old me in the store. Let me tell you I certainly learned a lot about myself and about responsibility in general. I also was reminded of how sweet my boyfriend is for putting up with me being so mental and stressed out. I adore being busy but sometimes it is a lot for one little florist on her own. Thank goodness Molly (the other designer) is back she is amazing and things are finally under control again. I managed to get one picture of an arrangement in though! Hope you like it.

A day of Sweethearts

I wouldn't spend Valentines Day any other way than in a flower shop. It is amazing to be a part of so much love. At one point during the day we had a lineup of six men staring at the card wall trying to find the perfect card for their sweethearts. I must have made 200 bouquets this weekend and each one of them for a guy who is either in love or falling for a special someone. Some men would take forever to pick out the exact bouquet that represented their sweeheart's personality perfectly. The real winners are the men who were sending bouquets to their grandmothers in retirement homes who no longer had a sweetheart. Each man I served reminded me of my sweetie trying to pick out a bouquet for me. Although we planned to celebrate Valentines Day on the 15th I still came home to the surprise of a bouquet from my favorite florist Coriander Girl. Having so much love around me made me feel all cozy inside.

Taking a deep breath before Valentines Day.

Here is a little sneak peak of what I will be doing for Valentines day which is sneaking up on me like a mosquito. This is a little "Rose Garden" which I made just to give you a little sneak peak. I promise I will keep you posted throughout this lovely little hectic holiday. Although I may sound like I am dreading it I am actually excited for the little rush, it should be fun!

Happy Hanukkah!

I must say I much prefer a "Hanukkah" palette of blues and whites much more than red, white and green. These pieces turned out so well with the touches of blueberry which have a metallic blue hue. The combination of blues and whites are just so classy and peaceful. Can we please change Christmas colors to something a little more pleasing rather than fire hydrant red and white?

Okay so maybe I lied.. It's not actually mistletoe. But they are indeed little kissing balls that I have been making non stop! Real mistletoe is unfortunately quite unattractive and poisonous so these little posies of greens work just fine.

Tis' The Season

Apparently I am not the only one who is excited for the Christmas season despite what I have heard! I rode my bike past this wonder the other night and it was somewhat nostalgic. When I was in my early teens my grandmother rented out the basement apartment in our house and would always decorate our house to the nines for Christmas. I'm talking blowup snowmen on the lawn, constant caroling playing outside and lights everywhere. Seeing as I was at that age where what people thought of me was the most important thing in the world I was mortified by this grand festive gesture and wouldn't let any of my friends come over for the whole month of December. But now, I look back and think of those memories every time I see an overly decorated house and think about my family and what a nice memory it is.
